Music of the Muezzin is a poet’s spiritual odyssey through the tortuous topography of human existence in its curious quintessence and colourful cadences across space and time, using the muezzin motif as a short-hand for unraveling its deepest meaning and crushing contradictions.

Abdur-Raheem Adebayo Lawal is a Professor of English Education and Applied Linguistics and the current Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) at the University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria. ‘Bayo Lawal, as better known, had taught English Studies at various periods at the defunct St. Andrew’s College of Education, Oyo, University of Ibadan and Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, all in Nigeria. His poems have appeared in several anthologies, periodicals and chapbooks, including ANA Review, Kongo and The Fate of Vultures, the 1988 BBC Award-winning anthology published by Heinemann, London. Music of the Muezzin is Lawal’s second collection of poems, the first being Me lodreams published in 1994 by Paragon Books and re-published in 2014 by Kraft Books Limited.
